Boithakhana at The Art Hive - Reservation for One

Boithakhana is the room at the front of an old Bengali house. Not the drawing room you kept for show — the one with the low seating and the tea that never stopped coming, where people turned up in the evening and stayed longer than they meant to. Someone always had a harmonium. Nobody had an agenda.

We are putting one back together for a single evening at The Art Hive, and you are invited to sit in it.

One evening only

Saturday, 12 September 2026 — 6 PM to 9 PM.

This is the only ticketed session of the two days. Friday is free all day and so is Saturday daytime; this is the one evening that is sat down, served, and limited. One registration covers one person, so book one per guest.

What ₹1,499 actually covers

This is the question we keep being asked, so here it is in full. There is no second bill inside. You walk in, and everything below is yours.

1. The welcome

You are received at the door, walked in, and settled. No queue, no badge, no registration desk chaos. Thirty people means we know your name before you arrive.

2. Bengali food, served the way it should be

• Jhaal muri in a paper thonga — mixed in front of you, mustard oil, green chilli, coconut, the works
• Cha in a bhar — real unglazed clay cups, which is half the taste and all of the smell
• Egg devil — the Kolkata-club version, spiced potato around a boiled egg, fried to order
• Veg chop and samosa — hot, in rounds, through the evening
• Mishti to finish

Not canapés on a tray. Adda food, refilled as long as you are sitting. Bengali fusion by Sweet Fix, from Romita Basu. The evening menu is included in your reservation — there is nothing to buy inside.

3. Live music and adda

This evening we have Keyur Kar live — vocalist, guitarist and storyteller. Old Bollywood flavours, soulful Bengali melodies and timeless favourites, played close enough that you can ask for a song and quiet enough that you can still talk over it. Which is the point. Adda is not networking. Nobody will hand you a card. The music is there to hold the room together while the conversation does what it wants.

Some songs stay with you. Expect music, stories and conversations — the way they were always meant to be experienced.

4. A curated display — five tables

• The Namrata Weaves table — handwoven sarees, festive drapes and bespoke menswear, laid out to be touched, not roped off. Most of what we make exists in one or two pieces only.
• Sweet Fix — Bengali fusion food by Romita Basu.
• Yugavi — bronze jewellery by Tanushree, inspired by heritage.
• Jute Story — handmade jute decor for your home and lifestyle.
• Indu Nair — crafted jewellery that celebrates grace and tradition.

Everything on the tables is available to take home that evening. There is no pressure to buy and no sales pitch — but you will not see this material together in one room again, and we would rather tell you that now than surprise you at the door.

5. The room itself

Floor seating, bolsters, lantern light, a lot of green, no overhead tube light anywhere. Phones on silent by common consent. It is a slow, soft, deliberately unhurried evening — the opposite of every other thing in your calendar that week.

Thirty seats. That is not a marketing line.

The room holds thirty comfortably and thirty-one badly, and there is only one of these evenings. So that is the whole thing: thirty people, one room, one night.

The counter on this page is live. When it shows sold out, it is genuinely gone, and there is no waitlist and no door sales. We would rather turn people away than serve lukewarm cha to a crowd.

Come earlier in the day, free

The same room runs as an open Durga Puja Exhibition in the daytime, and entry is completely free:

• Friday, 11 September — 11 AM to 8 PM, free all day
• Saturday, 12 September — 11 AM to 5 PM, free, then this evening begins at 6

Handwoven sarees, festive drapes, bronze and crafted jewellery, handmade jute decor and Bengali fusion food, on tables you can walk around at your own pace. Good to know

Is ₹1,499 per person or per group?

Per person. Book one reservation per guest. Bringing someone? Change the quantity before you check out.

Do I need to stay all three hours?

No. Come at 6 or come at 8. The food and the music run through.

Is there anything more to pay inside?

Not for the food, the tea or the music. Only if you decide to take something home from the tables.

Is the food vegetarian?

There is a full vegetarian line - jhaal muri, veg chop, samosa and mishti. The egg devil is the only egg item and is served separately.

What do I bring?

Your order confirmation on your phone, and nothing else. The venue address is above, and we will send directions with your confirmation.

Can I get a refund?

No - reservations are non-refundable, and we would rather tell you why than hide it in the fine print. There are only thirty seats and we do not take a single one extra. The moment you book, that seat leaves the counter and somebody else is turned away for it. If you cancel two days before, we have no way to find that person again — the seat simply goes empty, and two people lose out instead of one.

So please book only if you are sure. If something does come up, the seat is fully transferable — send a friend in your place and just tell us the new name at least 24 hours ahead.
